About Litfy
Litfy is a quiet reading room for the world's public-domain literature. Every book here is free to read, in full, in your browser — no account, no paywall, no ads.
Why Litfy exists
The great books of the past belong to everyone, but reading them online often means cluttered pages, broken formatting and endless distractions. Litfy gives these texts the calm, careful setting they deserve.
How the books are prepared
Our texts come from Project Gutenberg and other public-domain archives. Each edition is imported, cleaned and checked by hand: chapters are put in order, scanning leftovers are removed, and front matter such as dedications and introductions is preserved. Nothing is rewritten.
Free, now and later
Reading on Litfy is free and will stay free. If we ever offer optional extras to help cover the costs of running the library, the books themselves will remain open to everyone.
Questions
Is Litfy really free?
Yes. Every book can be read in full without paying and without an account.
Do I need an account?
No. A free account simply lets you keep your reading position, bookmarks and shelves across devices.
Where do the texts come from?
From Project Gutenberg and other public-domain archives. We only publish works that are in the public domain in the United States.
Is a book in the public domain everywhere?
Not always. Copyright terms differ between countries, so please check the rules where you live before downloading or reusing a text.
I found a mistake in a book. What do I do?
Let us know by email with the book and chapter, and we will fix it.
Can I suggest a book?
Of course — send us the title and author and we will look at adding it.
